Preparing a Corn Header for the Season | ZHNIV-AGRO

Why pre-season preparation is important

ZHK-80 and ZHK-82 corn headers are complex machines that work intensively during corn harvest. Proper preparation before the season prevents breakdowns in the field, reduces downtime and extends equipment service life. We recommend starting preparation 2-3 weeks before harvesting begins.

Preparation checklist

1. Cutting unit

Check the condition of the cutting knives. Dull or damaged knives increase drive load and reduce stem cutting quality. Replace worn segments and adjust the clearance between the knife and counterknife plate to 0.5-1 mm.

2. Chains and sprockets

Inspect all drive chains for stretching, cracks and worn links. Check tension; sagging should not exceed 15-20 mm. Replace sprockets when tooth wear exceeds 30%. A worn chain on a new sprocket will quickly wear it out, so replace them as a set.

3. Gearboxes

Check the oil level in all gearboxes. Replace the oil if it has darkened or contains metal particles. Inspect seals for leaks. For ZHK-80/ZHK-82 gearboxes we recommend TAD-17i transmission oil or GL-5 equivalents.

4. Chopper and rollers

Check the condition of chopper knives and feeding rollers. Worn rollers feed stalks poorly, causing losses. Adjust the roller clearance according to the expected corn stalk diameter.

5. Lubrication and bearings

• Grease all lubrication points with Litol or an equivalent
• Check bearings for play and noise; replace worn units
• Lubricate joints and adjustment mechanisms
• Check protective covers and dust boots

6. Hydraulics

Inspect hydraulic hoses for cracks and abrasion. Check all connections for leaks. Replace hoses with visible damage, as a hose rupture in the field can stop harvesting for several hours.
